The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is nearing its business end and the battle for a spot in the playoff is intensifying with each passing match. Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) recent dominant victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) has further changed the dynamics of playoff qualification. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are currently in the first position, boasting a staggering 62.5% chance of finishing the league stage as the table toppers. Even if they stumble slightly, there’s an 87.5% chance they’ll secure at least a joint top spot. Their worst-case scenario remains a respectable tied-second position alongside another strong contender, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Rajasthan Royals (RR)

Despite their recent loss, Rajasthan Royals (RR) still hold a 12.5% chance of finishing at the top of the table. Their chances of securing a joint top spot are also decent at 37.5%. However, the competition is fierce. They could potentially end up tied for third place with two other teams (Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants). In this scenario, qualification for the playoffs wouldn’t be guaranteed.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

CSK, currently sitting comfortably in 3rd place, enjoys a near-guaranteed 91% chance of finishing among the top four teams in the points table. They could potentially even secure a tied-second position with Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

SRH is in the 4th position in the points table and has an even higher chance (nearly 97%) of finishing in the coveted top four. However, their odds of finishing tied for third with KKR and RR are much lower at just 3%.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)

RCB’s recent win streak has propelled them back into playoff contention and they currently sit in the fifth position. They have a decent chance (over 40%) of securing a top-four spot based on points. However, their best-case scenario is a bit more cautious – a tied-fourth position, potentially with three to five other teams. The good news for RCB is that they currently possess the best net run rate among all the potential contenders for this tied-fourth position, which could be a crucial advantage in the final analysis.

Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

Sixth-placed DC, despite their recent loss, still holds a fighting chance with a 31.3% probability of reaching the top four. Similar to RCB, their best hope is also a tied-fourth position, with the possibility of having three to five other teams vying for the same spot.

LSG, currently in seventh place, has a slightly better chance than DC with a 56% likelihood of making the top four. This advantage is partly due to their extra game in hand. Their best-case scenario mirrors CSK’s – a tied-second position with one to three other teams.

Gujarat Titans (GT)

Gujarat Titans (GT) find themselves in a tough position. Their chances of reaching the playoffs are less than 16%, making it a challenging climb. Even if they manage a tied-third position, their current net run rate makes it a less promising scenario compared to other contenders.
