Rajasthan Royals’ spin wizard spin wizard Yuzvendra Chahal etched his name alongside ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah. In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Mumbai Indians (MI), the leggie took 3-wicket haul. With this impressive spell, he took his team to victory and also equaled Bumrah’s record for most 3-wicket hauls in the IPL.

The match between RR and MI was played at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, known for its batting-friendly pitch. But Chahal has another plan for the pitch. He bowls with an economical figure of 3/11 in 4 overs, which took control of the game in favour of RR. This incredible performance marked his 20th 3-wicket haul in the IPL, equalling with India’s star bowler Jaspirt Bumrah. Former Sri Lanka’s legendary fast bowler (now bowling coach of MI) is second in the list with 19 three-wicket hauls.

The right-arm leg spinner’s crucial spell had a significant impact on the match. His very first wicket was of MI’s skipper Hardik Pandya. This wicket was a crucial one as it broke the 56-run partnership between MI’s captain and Tilak Varma. Pandya was caught on the long-on when he was playing on 34.

The wily spinner strikes again in the 14th over. This time dismissing the dangerous-looking Tilak Varma for 32. This wicket put pressure on the remaining Mumbai batsmen, with all hopes resting on Tim David to provide a good late finish.

This was not it, Chahal cleverly trapped the pinch hitter Gerald Coetzee into playing a risky shot. This results in a comfortable catch for Shimron Hetmyer at cover. Chahal’s sensational spin-bowling, alongside a fiery opening spell by Trent Boult, restricted Mumbai to their lowest total of the season – 125/9.

With the victory against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede, Rajasthan Royals has cemented their place at the top of the points table. They have an impressive start to their season with 3 wins in 3 matches, bagging 6 points. Meanwhile, Yuzvendra Chahal is currently the second-highest wicket-taker in the IPL 2024, a strong contender for the ‘Purple Cap’.

Now, the battle for the top spot in the IPL is heating up, and the RR will be looking to maintain their winning momentum. They can certainly rely on the experience and skill of Yuzvendra Chahal, who has proven himself to be a match-winner time and again.
