Indian ace-shuttler Lakshya Sen Wins Bangladesh International Challenger 2019

Young Indian shuttler Lakshay Sen continued his fine form as he clinched the men’s singles crown at the Bangladesh International Challenger to claim his fifth title of the season. The 18-year-old shuttler who has impressed everyone with his skill overcame Malaysia’s Leong Jun Hao in straight sets in the final to notch up the men’s singles title.

Lakshya Sen ended his season on a high as he registered a 22-20, 21-18 victory over Malaysia’s Leong Jun Hao. Lakshya Kicked off the campaign in Bangladesh with an easy win over fellow Indian Rajesh Verma in the opening round by 21-5, 21-10. The other three matches that followed Lakshya overwhelmed three Malaysians namely MD Tah M Ziyad (21-13, 21-6), Aisil Soleh Ali Sadikin (21-17, 21-9) and Ng Tze Yong (21-9, 21-11) to book a berth in the semis. In the semis, Lakshya overcame Indonesia’s Ikhsan Leonardo Imanuel Rumbay 21-18, 21-16 to book a final clash with Jun Hao. In the final Lakshya had to struggle in the first game as it headed into a deuce but it was the Indian who reigned supreme to end this season on a high.

Laskhaya had started the 2019 season winning the runners-up silver medal at Polish Open International Challenge in March. He then went on to win the first title of the year at the Belgian International in September. He followed up this title with four more titles in the next five tournaments namely Dutch Open Super 100 and SarrLorLux Super 100 in October and lastly the Scottish Open in November.

However, other than Lakshya no Indian shuttler could leave a mark as in the men’s double event Indian pair of MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila went down 19-21 16-21 to the Malaysian pair of Yee Jun Chang and Kai Wun Tee. In the women’s doubles event, India’s Maneesha K and Rutaparna Panda went down fighting to Malaysia’s Tan Pearly Koong Le and Thinaah Muralitharan. The Indian women’s pair lost to the Malaysian pair 22-20, 21-19.
