Australia all-rounders Glenn Maxwell and Matthew Wade have returned to Australia’s ODI and T20I squad for the upcoming tour of South Africa which is all set to take place later this month. Maxwell had earlier taken a break from international cricket last October due to his mental health issues. But he has returned and did well for Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League (BBL).

maxwell and wadeWade, on the other hand, who has been a regular member of Australia’s Test squads, has also been included on the back of a successful BBL season.

“It is fantastic to have Glenn back in both squads given his brilliant form in the middle order for the Stars along with his results with the ball,” National selector Trevor Hohns shared in a statement. “Glenn was one of the first picked in the most recent T20 team at the start of the summer, prior to his break from the game.”

Mitchell Marsh, who has last played in January 2018, has been recalled in the ODI squad for the first time. However, Ben McDermott and Billy Stanlake have been excluded from the T20 squad. They were part of the Australia side that beat Sri Lanka and Pakistan earlier in their home season while Peter Handscomb has also been dropped from the ODI squad that took on India.

He last played for Australia before the ICC World Cup in 2019 but missed the tournament due to a shoulder injury. However, a surprising thing was not the inclusion of all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, who has been in a prolific form and not been selected in either the ODI or T20I squad.

Australia will play 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs in South Africa where the first T20I game will take place at Johannesburg on February 21.
