After winning the qualifiers in June 2022 and topping their group, which included Cambodia, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong, India has qualified for a second consecutive AFC Asian Cup. The league was slated to take place in China from June to July of 2023. The tournament ultimately went to Qatar, who most recently hosted FIFA 2022 when China decided not to host it. Due to the high humidity in Qatar during the planned time, the league will now take place early in 2024.
The South Asian Football Federation Championship (SAFF), which will be held in India between June 21 and July 3, will also include the Blue Tigers. The Indian team will attempt to defend the title that they won for the eighth time in 2021. There are six countries in the league, including Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan, Nepal, and the Maldives.
The Indian team will also compete in the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will feature 48 teams and be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. There will be eight spaces reserved for AFC nations. India has already secured a spot in the second round, and the qualifiers will get underway in November 2023. They will also be used to qualify for the AFC Asian Cup in 2027.
