Indian men’s football team needs to upscale their skill especially if they are looking to become one of the top teams in the Asian Continent.

In the ongoing SAFF Championship 2021, India ends in a frustrating draw with 0-0 against Sri Lanka at the Maldives National Stadium in Male on Thursday.

Sri Lanka challenged India on their defense after the initial run along with flanks while their goalkeeper Sujan Perera remained rock-solid between the sticks.

Sunil Chhetri, who had the great opportunity of equaling Pele’s record of International goals, looked scheduled upfront and expressed his frustration of not scoring goals during cooling breaks.

This is just the fifth draw in the last 21 matches that they have taken part in between two South-Asian countries. This draw will bring scrutiny on Igor Stimac whose coaching has been criticised since this tournament began last week.

India, which has won the SAFF tournament a maximum of seven times and will be next competing against Nepal in the next match and will look to win that with a big margin if it has any hope of winning it this time.

SAFF Championship is currently sponsored by Ooredoo and is currently a thirteen edition of SAFF Championship which is scheduled in the Maldives.  Initially the tournament was supposed to happen in Pakistan in 2020 and later it was postponed to September 2021 in Bangladesh and later it was shifted to the Maldives.

SAFF organizers decided to allow Pakistan to host the 2021 version of the tournament initially after the restoration of Pakistan Football Federation membership by FIFA and since then it would be the country’s first international football tournament.

All the matches of the tournament will be played in National Stadium which is located in the capital city Male. The Single round-robin format needs to be adopted where the top two teams will be advancing in the final.
