David Vonderhaar, a developer well-known for his role in creating memorable parts of the Call of Duty games, has revealed that he’s saying goodbye to Treyarch, the game development company. In a message on LinkedIn, he shared this news.
For a long time, Vonderhaar has played a key role at Treyarch, leading design and creative work for the Black Ops game series since 2004. He has been prominently seen and openly communicative across several games, such as Black Ops, Black Ops 2, Black Ops 3, and Black Ops 4.

David Vonderhaar expressed his gratitude to the Call of Duty community for their enthusiasm and passion. He mentioned that this energy from fans has always motivated the studio’s determination and efforts. He’s thankful for connecting with people both online and in person and sees this energy as a significant part of his life.
Over the years, Vonderhaar has been present at Call of Duty esports events, interacting with professionals, fans, and anyone who wanted to meet him. He was the face of the studio for an impressive 18 years and eight Call of Duty games.
He thanked his colleagues at Treyarch for their dedication to improving their work, always aiming to enhance their creations.
Vonderhaar revealed that he’s leaving Activision to work on a project that he can’t discuss yet, so he’s still going to be in the industry. He’s enthusiastic about this unique opportunity and will share more details with the community as soon as possible.
Treyarch’s upcoming project involves the Zombies mode for Modern Warfare 3. Beyond that, they’re likely to take the lead on the 2024 Call of Duty title, which might continue the Black Ops storyline.
It’s a temporary farewell and a big thank you to Mr. Vonderhaar for his years of contribution to some of the best Call of Duty games we’ve seen so far.
