Prithvi Shaw rushed to NCA after suffering shoulder injury

Mumbai opener Prithvi Shaw gets a huge blow as he has suffered a shoulder injury this time after serving an eight-month suspension for failing a dope test. He injured his left shoulder during Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy game against Karnataka.

Shaw has been rushed to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for an assessment of the injury. He suffered the injury after making an attempt to stop an overthrow. After the injury, he neither fielded nor came in to bat during the ongoing Ranji tie and later flew to Bengaluru.

According to the scan reports,  Shaw has a labral tear on his left shoulder. It turns out into a huge setback for the youngster as he suffered the injury just a week ahead of India A tour of New Zealand. Shaw has been named in both India A squads for the tour and the team is set to leave on January 10. However, with the recent development, his going on tour is under massive threat now.

Shaw underwent an MRI scan in the presence of Mumbai’s physio on Friday and the physio gave the latest update about the youngster.

“He (Shaw) looks better. Looking at him on the ground, it was not looking good but now I think he is looking good. Later on, I will get to know from the physio on what exactly the situation is (with regard to him),”  Mumbai skipper Suryakumar Yadav said.

Meanwhile, Mumbai manager Ajinkya Naik informed me that the injury seemed to a very serious one.

“We got an email from the BCCI today asking Prithvi to report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore for the assessment of the extent of the injury. He has left for Bengaluru. He couldn’t even lift his hand. He has a tear in the shoulder. That much is known. He was not in a position to bat. How serious is the injury will be known at the NCA,” he said.

Mumbai was bowled out for only 149 runs in the second innings courtesy of some exceptional bowling from Prateek Jain (4/11) and Abhimanyu Mithun (3/62). Sarfaraz Khan remained unbeaten for 71*, but that didn’t help the course as Karnataka is leading by 49 runs at the moment with 77/0 on the board.
