With the combinations of players that they have retained it is ideal that they might be looking for backup wicket keeper to Rishabh Pant especially after they released Carey ahead of IPL 2021. There might be a space for good opening Indian/Overseas batsman as backup and also to add depth in their playing X1.

They might go for Sam Billings, Mohammad Azharuddin or Aaron Finch

Players purchased from the auction: Steve Smith, Tom Curran, Sam Billings, Umesh Yadav, Ripal Patel, Vishnu Vinod, Lukman Meriwala and M Siddharth.

Overall analysis of the squad: They needed an backup wicketkeeper to Rishabh Pant which they have included in form of Sam Billings. They have picked an experience fast bowler in form of Umesh Yadav. They have good all rounder in form of Stonis, Woakes, Curran. However Steve Smith position will be a point of discussion that whether he will open or will play down the order. They might be lacking one Indian batsman as Shaw is going through rough patch.Their strength is bowling for sure but they should have bought more domestic players which should have strengthen their squad to a great extent.
