There are many things that Delhi Capitals haven’t done well in the Indian Premier League. They haven’t won loads of games, they haven’t won the trophy, and haven’t made it a final either. However, in terms of matches lost, one will start pulling his hair to find a team good enough to beat Delhi Capitals.

In their history of 12 years, Delhi Capitals have lost 97 games. No team has lost more games than them. On the brink of 100 IPL defeats, Delhi has had their occasional good season in the Premier League. However, most of it has been poor. They have finished at the bottom of the table four times, and have made it to the playoffs only four times.

Total Losses by DC in IPL Season Wise (2008-2019)

 

#1. 2008 – 7 losses

This was one of Delhi’s better seasons. They lost 6 games in the league phase. Their very first defeat was against Kings XI Punjab. They had a 4-game losing streak in this season. Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals defeated them twice.

#2. 2009 – 5 losses

Total Losses by DC: The Capitals finished at the top of the group stages. They lost 4 games in the league stages. Their first defeat was against Rajasthan Royals. In the league phase, they also lost against Chennai Super Kings, Kings XI Punjab and Royal Challengers Bangalore. They lost in the semi-finals against Deccan Chargers.

 

#3. 2010 – 7 losses

This was Delhi Capitals’ first season in which they failed to qualify for the playoffs. They had two 3-match losing streaks in this phase. Mumbai Indians were the common team in both the streaks. They also lost twice against Deccan Chargers.

#4. 2011 – 9 losses

Total Matches Lost by DC : One would have a tough time jotting down their 2011 losses, for they lost 9 of their 14 games and finished at the very bottom of the table. Mumbai Indians were once again the team who won twice against Delhi Capitals. Barring that, Pune Warriors India was the only side who couldn’t beat them.

 

#5. 2012 – 7 losses

Total Losses by DC: This was arguably Delhi Capitals’ best season in the IPL. They lost only 5 games in the league phase of this season. They lost twice against Royal Challengers Bangalore, while Pune Warriors India, Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings were the other sides that beat them. The last two sides also defeated Capitals in the playoffs.

#6 2013 – 13 losses

Since Capitals lost 13 games in this season, it would be easier to list down the teams they didn’t lose to. Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders and Pune Warriors India were the only three unlucky sides who couldn’t do a double on Delhi.

 

#7. 2014 – 12 losses

This was their worst season in terms of wins. Delhi won only 2 games in this season, and lost 12 games. Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians were the only sides who suffered a defeat against them. In the India leg of this season, Capitals failed to register a single victory.

#8. 2015 – 8 losses

Total Matches Lost by DC: This was precisely the years in which Delhi Capitals mastered the art of losing. Besides Kings XI Punjab, they lost at least once against every opponent in this season. Besides Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore, every team defeated them in both the legs.

 

#9. 2016 – 7 losses

This was the season in which Delhi made some sort of a comeback. They lost exactly half of their matches in this year. Rising Pune Supergiant was the only side who defeated them in both the legs. Sunrisers Hyderabad was the only side who couldn’t win a single game against Delhi Capitals in this season.

#10. 2017 – 8 losses

Once again, Delhi was amongst the bottom dwellers. They lost 3 home games and 5 away games. Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore all did the double on them. Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiant were the only sides who couldn’t beat them.

#11. 2018 – 9 losses

Total Losses by DC:  Delhi lost only 3 home games this season but suffered 6 defeats in 7 away games. Kings XI Punjab, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore were the teams to beat them twice. Mumbai Indians were the only side who couldn’t get the better of them for once.

#12. 2019 – 6 losses

Total Matches Lost by DC: After what looked like an eternity, Delhi was finally back in the playoffs last season. They lost only 6 games, including their playoff defeat against Chennai Super Kings. Chennai were also the only side to beat them twice in the group stages. Mumbai Indians, Kings XI Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad were the other sides who defeated them.
