Napoli, also known, as The Parthenopeans is an Italian Football Club. They participate in Serie A, Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana.

HISTORY

The club was founded 93 years ago in the early 1900s by an English sailor William Poths and Renesto Bruschini, a Neapolitan. The club played its first match against Arabik, an English ship crew team members in a 3-2 win. Despite a decent start the club in 1912 broke apart into two clubs, the first club formed was led by Steinnegger and Bayon, it was named as US Internazionale Napoli while the second was called Naples FBC, led by Emilio Anatra.

During the 1912-13 Italian Championship, both clubs emerged as the greatest rivals in the city. The competition saw Naples emerging tops before it went on to lose to Lazio in the next stage of the competition.

The rivalry continued till 1915 till World War I affected the country. In 1922, both clubs merged because of financial lapse and thus a new club named FBC Internazionale-Naples was formed.

In 1926 the club changed its name to Associazione Calcio Napoli. With the new name, the club doesn’t start well as they finished bottom of the championship with just 1 point earned in 18 League outings.

However, the club in 1961, started improving as they won the Coppa Italia and managed to defeat SPAL Ferrara with 2 against 1. In 1964 the club renamed itself as Societa Sportiva Calcio Napoli after it was promoted to Serie A in the same year after they finished second in Serie B.

In the same year, the club won the Coppa Alpi Cup beating Juventus in the process. The biggest moment for the club came on 10th May 1987 when it conquers the Serie A title by defeating Fiorentina

Diego Maradona who emerged as the savior of the club, in 1992 had to leave the club after a cocaine scandal. In the following years, the club loses its other important star players and face relegation to Serie B after the 1997-98 season.

In 2004, the club declared bankrupt and faced a verge of getting extinct, here enters Aurelio De Laurentiis as a saviour who paid all the debts and re-established the club under the name Napoli Soccer.

The club started from Serie C and gradually made a come-back in Serie A very quickly.
