Ravindra Jadeja is one of the finest all-rounders in the game of Cricket and probably the best fielder the Indian team has seen. Over the years Ravindra Jadeja has grown in his stature. His slow left-arm orthodox bowling has been lethal for the team as well as his ability to tonk the ball in death overs. His ability on the field is second to none and is a worth mentioning every now and then.

He was a key member of the Indian team that won the 2015 ICC Champions Trophy in England. He finished as the highest wicket-taker of the tournament. He has won the Indian Premier League with Rajasthan Royals as well as with Chennai Super Kings. Jadeja has also won the U19 cricket world in 2008 under Kohli’s captaincy.

Ravindra Jadeja was born on 6th December 1988 to Anirudhsinh and Lata Jadeja. Jadeja’s father was a watchman for a private security agency, as a result, his family did not have a strong background. His father wanted him to be a part of the Indian army and become an officer but he believed otherwise. He was interested in cricket from the start and made a name for himself by the time he was 19.

Jadeja’s first under 19 appearances for team India came in 2005 when he was just 16 years old. Due to his performances, he made it into the under 19 Cricket World Cup squad for 2006 that was held in Sri Lanka. He is amongst those few players who have played two under 19 World Cups for India. In the 2008 edition of the under 19 Cricket World Cup, he was the vice-captain of the team which was led by Virat Kohli to glory.

At the mere age of 16, he had already made his first-class debut for Saurashtra in the Ranji trophy. He was part of the Indian domestic circuit since a very young age and in 2008 he became the first Indian player and eighth overall to score three first-class triple centuries in his career.

Ravindra Jadeja made his Test debut on 13-17 December 2012 against England at Nagpur. His One-Day-International debut on 8 February 2009 against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Ravindra Jadeja was selected by the Rajasthan Royals for the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008 and played an important role in their victory (Royals defeated Chennai Super Kings in the final). Jadeja scored 135 runs from 14 matches at a strike rate of 131.06, his best score being 36* against Kings XI Punjab. He did even better in 2009, scoring 295 runs at a strike rate of 110.90, and conceding fewer than 6.5 runs per over. Shane Warne, the captain of Rajasthan Royals, referred to Jadeja as a “superstar in the making”. Warne also nicknamed him “Rockstar”.

Jadeja sat out the 2010 IPL because of a ban arising from contractual irregularities. In 2011, he was bought by the Kochi Tuskers Kerala for $950,000. Kochi Tuskers were terminated from the IPL in September 2011, and in the 2012 IPL player auction, Jadeja was bought by Chennai Super Kings for $2 million (approx. Rs. 98 million) after a tie-breaker with Deccan Chargers who bid the same amount. Jadeja was the most expensive player of the year’s auction. He won the Man of the Match award in the second match of the season against Deccan Chargers for his all-round performance (48 runs off 29 balls, 5/16 in 4 overs).

Ravindra Jadeja, playing for Chennai Super Kings, put in a fine spin bowling performance in Chennai for an IPL 2015 Match on Mother’s Day; he took four wickets for 11 runs with a brilliant spell of bowling against Rajasthan Royals.
