Personal Life

Vala was born in the small city of Papua New Guinea and had a liking for the sport from the day he was born. He started playing cricket, and seeing his potential, he was named in Papua New Guinea’s under-19 team. Since then, he has never looked back. Assad Vala is married to Pauke Siaka, who is also a cricketer.

Career

Assad Vala, Papua New Guinea’s skipper, made his one-day international (ODI) debut against Hong Kong on November 8, 2014, and his T20 international debut against Ireland on July 15, 2015. Vala made his first-class debut against the Netherlands in June 2015, scoring 124 not out and going on to score three hundred in his first four outings.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) named him one of ten players to watch for the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier, and he received the Tony Elly Medal at the Papua New Guinea Cricket Awards that year.

In August 2018, Vala was named captain of Papua New Guinea’s squad for the ICC World Twenty20 East Asia-Pacific Qualifier, where he scored the most runs (294). He proceeded to captain the squad in various games, including the 2019 ICC World Cricket League Division Two and the United States Tri-Nation Series, when he earned his first ODI century of 104 runs against Namibia.

Vala captained Papua New Guinea in the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier and scored the most runs for his team with 197. He was nominated for the ICC Men’s Associate Cricketer of the Decade award in November 2020. Vala was selected captain of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in August 2021, noting his constant leadership and success in international cricket.

Assad Vala will now be representing his nation, Papua New Guinea, as the captain of the cricket team at the biggest stage in world cricket. He will be ready to pull off a miraculous performance with his team in the forthcoming tournament.
