Erling Haaland took only 600 seconds to score on his first match since World Cup

Last night at the Carabao Cup 4th round tie, Manchester City defeated Liverpool by 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium to reach the quarter finals. It took Erling Haaland just 10 minutes to score on his return as the Norwegian opened the scoring for the Premier League champions.

Erling Haaland

Most of the core players of Pep Guardiola’s side have returned from the World cup other than Argentine Julian Alvarez. City had the most representatives at the World cup than any other English side but due to pre-mature exit of teams like Belgium, Spain, England and Portugal saw City get their main players on time before Club football resumed.

Haaland meanwhile could not play in the World cup because Norway failed to qualify and the tall number 9 is all set to haunt Premier league teams once again. He is already leading the race for the Golden boot with 18 goals in just 13 appearances and in front of home support, the 21-year-old resumed his season in the best way possible.

Minutes after Cole Palmer missed an incredible chance to score, Erling Haaland scored an acrobatic goal through a left-footed cross by Kevin De Bruyne to take the lead. 10 minutes later, Fabio Carvalho equalized for the visitors after Joel Matip penetrated City’s defense and the former squeezed the ball from the right of Stefan Ortega’s hands.

Kevin De Bruyne

The home team doubled their lead through Riyadh Mahrez’s outstanding curved finish in the 47th minute followed by another goal by Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah. Within 10 minutes, Kevin De Bruyne found Nathan Ake to make it 3-2. De Bruyne registered 2 assists and City go through to the last 8 of Carabao Cup.
