Argentina’s run into the final of the World cup was of course headed by Lionel Messi but without Julian Alvarez some part of it wouldn’t have happened. He has scored just one goal less (4) than Kylian Mbappe and Messi himself (5). Alvarez has come out to become a major contributor for Argentina in this edition of the WC and he could once again be decisive in the final against France.

But before any of that took place, Julian Alvarez’s dream was to actually play the World cup and when asked about his Idol, he replied “lionel messi”. Today, the 20-year-old is living the dream. A very functional player who has got ferocious pace and wit to carry the ball forward. Alvarez has the rare ability of following his instincts while scoring a goal even from long range.

The goals he scored for River Plate are the evidence of his abilities, something that Pep Guardiola noticed and Manchester City signed Alvarez. The way Alvarez is helping head coach Scaloni on the build up of their attacks will be in huge demand on Sunday.

Scaloni can use Alvarez in many ways but among the abilities he has of running and driving the ball through or along the defenders to create space and chances for the team. Argentina’s comeback after losing against Saudi Arabia in the first match would not have been possible if Alvarez did not play the supporting cast for Messi.

He has perfectly fitted Scaloni’s plans and he is also complimenting his idol. It was Julian Alvarez who won the penalty against Croatia in the Semis which helped Messi score his 5th goal of the campaign and later Messi himself assisted Alvarez for his second goal.

For Manchester City, Julian Alvarez is a back up for Erling Haaland and for a fact the English giants bought him only for a price lower than 20 Million Euros. Given the talent the 20-year-old possesses, City raided River Plate. His release clause or price tag will certainly rise after he became the youngest player to score twice in a FIFA WC Semi-final since Pele in 1958.

Against Croatia, Alvarez was involved in three of their goals. First he won the penalty, he scored the second one as he ran straight to Dominik Livakovic and the third goal was a vintage gameplay by Messi which was finished by the number 9.
