Virender Sehwag talks about Dhoni’s future amidst tough times

Former Indian captain MS Dhoni has made himself unavailable in every series India played after India’s semi-final exit in the world cup 2019. The Ranchi cricketer has not played even a single match after that unfortunate run-out in the semi-final game against New Zealand but at the same time has not even announced his retirement either.

Nevertheless, Dhoni might have not featured in any International game for a while, he still wishes to play in the T20 World Cup, if reports are anything to be believed. Speaking on the same, head coach Ravi Shastri earlier said that his performance in IPL 2020 would depend a lot on his chances in featuring in the World Cup.

Virendra SehwagHowever, with the deadly Covid-19 spreading across the globe, chances of organising a full-fledged IPL this year are looking bleak. Also, former Indian cricketer, Virender Sehwag stressed on the importance of giving young players like Rishabh Pant more chances as Dhoni’s comeback in International cricket is looking anything but bright.

Where will he fit in? With the likes of already in form, especially the latter performing exceptionally well of late, I think there is no reason why we should not stick with them,” the 41-year old was quoted as saying in TOI.

Sehwag also spoke on Virat Kohli’s dismal run of form, asserting that Indian skipper will make a comeback.

He is a class batsman but that has happened to all the great batsmen in different eras, be it Sachin Tendulkar, Steven Waugh, Jacques Kallis or Ricky Ponting.”

Virat Kohli suffered a lean patch in New Zealand tour, scoring just 38 runs in two test matches against New Zealand. His scores in test series read: 2, 19, 3 and 14. The Indian skipper scored only a single half-century in the test and one-day series combined. He scored 9 runs in the first one-day match, while the second and third one-day match saw him notch 51 and 15 respectively.
