Watch: Sourav Ganguly's Reaction After Suryakumar Yadav Demolishes Virat Kohli's RCB, Sourav Ganguly, Cricket Association of Bengal, CAB

Sourav Ganguly Set for CAB Return, Could Replace Brother Snehasish as President

Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian cricket captain, is in the news again. This time, it’s about his possible return to cricket administration. Reports say that Sourav Ganguly is set to become the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) for a second term. Right now, his brother Snehasish Ganguly is the CAB president, but a change might happen soon.

Ganguly’s Past Role at CAB

Sourav Ganguly has been the CAB president before. He started in 2015 and stayed in that role until 2019. During those years, he worked hard to improve Bengal cricket. Then, in 2019, he left CAB to take a bigger job as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). After he left, Avishek Dalmiya became the CAB president. Avishek is the son of former BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya.

Snehasish Takes Over

In 2022, Snehasish Ganguly, Sourav’s elder brother, became the CAB president. He was elected without anyone running against him. Meanwhile, Sourav chose not to contest the CAB elections that year. Instead, he focused on his work with the BCCI until Roger Binny replaced him as BCCI president.

A Possible Return

Now, things might change again. According to Indranil Basu from Cricblogger, Sourav Ganguly is likely to return as the CAB president. Because of his experience and fame, it’s hard to imagine anyone standing in his way. In fact, CAB tried to bring him back earlier, but it didn’t work out then. This time, it seems more likely to happen.

Ganguly’s Time at BCCI

Sourav Ganguly’s time as BCCI president had its ups and downs. There were some big challenges, like his disagreement with Virat Kohli, who stopped being India’s captain during Ganguly’s term. Also, the Indian team didn’t do well in some major events. They were knocked out of the T20 World Cup twice and lost the World Test Championship Final in 2021. Still, Ganguly led Indian cricket through tough times, including the COVID-19 pandemic.

What Happens with Delhi Capitals?

If Sourav Ganguly becomes the CAB president, it might end his time with the Delhi Capitals. He used to be their director of cricket, but Venugopal Rao took over that role before IPL 2025. However, Ganguly stayed involved with the women’s team in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and the Pretoria Capitals in SA20. Returning to CAB could mean leaving those roles behind.

Sourav Ganguly’s possible return as CAB president is big news for cricket in Bengal. His past work shows he knows how to lead, and many believe he can help Bengal cricket grow. At the same time, stepping away from Delhi Capitals could give others a chance to shine in the IPL. For now, everyone is waiting to see what happens next with the Cricket Association of Bengal and Sourav Ganguly.
