Shane Watson thanks Dhoni and Fleming for keeping faith in him during his hard time

Retired Australian All-rounder Shane Watson opened up on his relationship with Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni and coach Stephen Fleming. Talking about his current IPL team, Watson revealed what keeps Chennai Super Kings different from the other franchises is their ability to trust the players and stick by them during their hard times.

Shane Watson was a part of the winning CSK team in 2018 edition of the IPL. It was the comeback season for the CSK after serving two years of suspension. Before that, Watson had won the Indian Premier League title in the inaugural edition with the Rajasthan Royals in 2008.

Praising the skipper MS Dhoni and coach Stephen Fleming, Watson said during the live session on Instagram, “In CSK, you can go to ten games without not scoring runs and still get picked. For the last season, I would like to thank MS Dhoni and Stephen Fleming for keeping their faith in me. Every other franchise would have been like ‘You are gone’. Thank you for coming, but you are sitting and you are running the drinks,”

Watson also said how the faith of Dhoni and Fleming helped him perform well in the 2019 finals, although the team lost despite his tremendous efforts. The right-handed batsman was the key man for the side in the 2019 edition of the IPL as he single-handedly almost leading them for their fourth IPL title and he also scored 80 runs off 59 balls against the Mumbai Indians. He compiled a total of 382 runs in 17 matches and was one of the top-scorers of the side in that edition.

The 38-year-old was supposed to play for CSK in the opening game of the IPL 2020 against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on March 29, however, the season was postponed due to the scarce of the coronavirus and there has been no such speculation of when the season will start.
