Ranji Trophy 2022/23 : Saurashtra vying for the Championship for star batter Cheteshwar Pujara

Ranji Trophy 2022/23 has reached the pinnacle stage and this year’s final is a replay of the 20219/20 season Final between 2-time champions Bengal and 1-time winners Saurashtra. In their previous meeting at this very stage was won by Saurashtra back when Bengal were trying to land their 3rd Ranji trophy and first in 1989-90.

In that final the West Indian outfit were able to win their maiden Ranji Trophy title after a very impressive 1st innings batting performance. Their tie against Bengal did not produce any result but Saurashtra won the match in the first innings enroute Arpit Vasavada’s 100.

But this year, Bengal are coming in with a lot of pride and outstanding performances through out the league stages. They registered a massive win against last year’s champions Madhya Pradesh by 305 runs. Their batting as well as bowling clicked at the right time but they will have to beat a side which is playing for their state’s hero Cheteshwar Pujara.

Saurashtra Captain Jaydev Unadkat pulled out of the Border-Gavaskar trophy 2023 in order to play for his side in the final against Bengal at the Eden Gardens. Unadkat made a special request to the Indian management and head coach Rahul Dravid to let him play for Saurashtra and everyone in the team respected his decision with Dravid backing the player to go out and play.

The leftie pacer said that he would want to win the title for Cheteshwar Pujara on the occasion of his 100th Test appearance for India at Delhi tomorrow.

“I was there when he made his Test debut, I was a part of the team as well. I don’t see a lot of difference in his attitude and ethics. There can’t be a better way to give him a tribute than winning Ranji title. Even during our quarters and semis, we were following it keenly together. They wished the team all the luck. Hopefully we will make them proud with the cricket we play.”
