Ranji Trophy 2022/23 : Bihar bamboozled Manipur and Madhya Pradesh blank Andhra

After Karnataka and Bengal went through to the Ranji Trophy 2022/23 semi-final, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh joined both the teams as they earned positive results from their respective Quarter-finals. The only match that did not produce a result was the fixture between Saurashtra and Punjab as it has been extended for Day 5 as the North-Indians need 200 runs in 97 runs.

As for the fixture between Bihar and Manipur, the hosts after winning the toss elected to bat first and scored a mammoth 546 runs on the board. After a terrible performance by the top 3 batters Sachin Kumar and Sakibul Gani steadied the ship.

The former was out for 45 but Sakibul Gani had a point to prove. He scored a Double century in 238 deliveries and had a 322 run stand with Bipin Saurabh who also scored 155 runs. Manipur then responded with 337 runs in 1st Innings and 324 runs in the 2nd as captain Langlonyamba Keishangbam scored runs in both the innings – 50 and 117 respectively.

But Manipur could not chase the eventual total of 545 runs as Bihar won by 220 runs. Sakibul Gani was adjudged as the man of the match for his outstanding display with the Bat. Moving to Central India, Madhya Pradesh defeated Andhra Pradesh at the Holkar Stadium, Indore.

In this match too, the team that won the toss won the match. Madhya Pradesh asked Andhra Pradesh to bat first as Ricky Bhui (149) and Karan Shinde’s (110) Tons took the team to a 1st Inning total of 379.  The hosts in return could score only 228 runs and failed to end the trail.

But their bowlers in the 3rd Innings were breathing fire and restricted Andhra Pradesh for less than 100 runs on 93 with Avesh Khan taking 4 wickets and Gaurav Yadav took 3. Thanks to their efforts, MP received a target of 245 runs and they reached the total by 77th over to beat AP by 5 wickets.

Yash Dubey, Himanshu Mantri, Shubham Sharma, Rajat Patidar and Saransh Jain guided the team to a comfortable victory to the reach the Semi-finals of Ranji Trophy 2022/23.
