Ranji Trophy Final 2022/23 : Saurashtra take the lead through fifties from Harvik Desai, Sheldon Jackson and Arpit Vasavada!

2nd of the 88th of the Ranji Trophy saw Saurashtra begin Day 2 on a decent note after losing 2 early wickets in the 3rd session on Day 1. Harvik Desai and Sheldon Jackson’s partnership of 95 runs helped the 1-time winners get rid off the trail in the Final.

Saurashtra are currently looking formidable as Arpit Vasavada has taken the charge and scored a half-century and helped the team gain a lead of 34 runs but they are down by 5 wickets (238/5) at the end of session 2. The home team at the Eden gardens – Bengal had a tough time with the bat and scored only 174 runs in their first innings.

They recovered quickly yesterday after getting Saurashtra wickets and they kept it going today also but their bowlers have leaked a lot of runs as well. Mukesh Kumar has had the best bowling figures for Bengal 2/55 in 20 overs. Ishan Porel also picked 2 wickets and Akash Deep had notched one yesterday.

There is still a lot to play for in the next 3 days but Bengal will hope to end up on the winning side this time around after losing against the same opponents in 2019/20 Final. This year both the teams finished on top of their Elite groups with Bengal leading Elite A with 32 points and Saurashtra leading Elite B with 26 points.

The last time these 2 met at the Finals of Ranji, the match was drawn but Saurashtra became Champions due to their outstanding 1st inning performance with the bat. From Saurashtra’s perspective, their last Final appearance was about landing their maiden First class title and this year its about doubling it and winning it for Cheteshwar Pujara in honor of his 100th Test appearance at Kotla today.
