Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 Former Australian legends thinks this player should become Captain in near future!

Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 : Former Australian legends thinks this player should become Captain in near future!

Australia are preparing to stage a comeback in the 2nd Test of the Border-Gavaskar trophy 2023 as day 1 takes place tomorrow at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. The visitors suffered an embarrassing loss against India by an innings and 132 runs and Australia have a lot of work to do if they are to beat India in the following tests.

The hosts will relentlessly chase their target of registering a series win by 3-1 as a spot in the ICC Test Championship final is up for grabs. Australia have already qualified for the final and they doesn’t have much to lose other than their pride.

Australian greats have heavily criticized the team’s approach and performance in the 1st Test and they asked the players to have more intensity and seriousness in order to beat the formidable hosts. None of the Aussie batters were able to score a half-century at Nagpur and the only bright prospect for the visitors was Todd Murphy’s 5-wicket haul in the 2nd Innings.

On all such regard, former Australian Wicket-keeper batsman Ian Healy dropped a few suggestions on what should they do next and who should be the captain in the near future. “A possible captain. Who’s our next captain? I don’t think Marnus is a captaincy type… and Travis Head is. He captained South Australia since he was 21 and we’re mucking him around at a time we need to be revving him up.” – said Healy via SEN radio.

Healy further said that Travis Head should be backed for the captaincy role when Pat Cummins steps down. He doesn’t think anyone else other than Head has the capability of becoming the captain and discarded Marnus Labuschagne’ chances.

The former wicket-keeper also added that Travis Head will become a Test opener very soon. Allan Border on the other hand also supported Travis Head and slammed Australia for dropping him from the 1st Test at Nagpur.

“That’s maybe a case, but you’re allowed to improve, and Travis Head is one of those players that has improved and he showed that during the summer. He deserved the opportunity to play in that First Test match no doubt it about, I think they got that selection really wrong.”
