“Prithvi Shaw has been our worst player”, Shane Watson gives a blunt reality check for Delhi’s misery!

Delhi Capitals under the leadership of 1-time IPL winning Australian captain David Warner will not make it to the play-offs for the 2nd season in a row. DC are among the only 3 franchises in the tournament who are yet to win the World’s richest cricketing league.

They have had an inconsistent and underwhelming IPL 2023 season, thus the trophy will elude them for another year. In a realistic sense they were never even favorites to win the tournament this year because the team is not what it used to be.

The current set of uncapped local players failed to create an impact and sometimes even the big guns missed out from contributing enough. One of them has been Prithvi Shaw. The Mumbai-born batter dealt with a few hiccups in his life outside of cricket, getting involved in an altercation with some fans for a matter of selfie.

That certainly reflected during the tournament. He looked far from being the batter he is and he consistently failed to give Delhi good starts alongside David Warner before getting dropped. Shaw was constantly backed by the DC management and received 6 opportunities and failed in each.

It was in his 7th appearance this season that he scored a 50 when Delhi won against Dharamshala against Punjab kings. DC Batting coach and 2-time IPL winner Shane Watson spoke about the team’s disappointing performance and directly pointed finger towards Prithvi Shaw.

“One of the most disappointing parts for DC this season was Prithvi Shaw. He’s one of the most beautiful batters to watch and take down the best bowling with the skills that he’s got.” – Watson said.

The Aussie also mentioned that Shaw is a type of Batter who should be feared by bowlers in International cricket and spoke about his first half-century of IPL 2023. “Missing out on a few games, he really centralised and focussed on what direction he wants to go. Because he’s so incredibly skilled with the bat in hand he needs to bring every part of the game together.” – Watson concluded.
