Mohammad Haris Will Lead Pakistan in Asia Cup 2023
The Pakistan Shaheens squad for the upcoming ACC Men’s Emerging Asia Cup 2023 has been announced, with Mohammad Haris being named as the captain. The series will consist of 15 matches between eight nations and it will take place in Sri Lanka from July 14 through July 23. The Shaheens, who are the defending champions, will assemble at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore on 3 July for a week-long training camp before departing for Colombo on 12 July.
In Group A, the Shaheens will compete against India A, Nepal, and Sri Lanka A. Group B consists of Afghanistan A, Bangladesh A, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals, followed by the final showdown.

Mohammad Haris, a 22-year-old wicketkeeper-batter who has played in five ODIs and nine T20 Internationals for Pakistan, will captain the Shaheens. This will be Haris’s first time captaining the side, and he will aim to guide the team to another successful campaign in the Emerging Asia Cup.
The squad includes several players with international experience. Arshad Iqbal, who has played one T20I, will bring his bowling skills to the team. Kamran Ghulam, who has featured in one ODI, will contribute his batting prowess. Mohammad Wasim Jr., a promising young cricketer, joins the squad with experience in two Tests, 14 ODIs, and 27 T20Is.
Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Shahnawaz Dahani, and Tayyab Tahir are the other international players included in the squad. Farhan has played three T20Is, while Ayub has featured in eight T20Is. Dahani, who has represented Pakistan in two ODIs and 11 T20Is, will provide valuable pace bowling options. Tahir, with three T20I appearances, adds depth to the batting lineup.
The Shaheens’ campaign in the Emerging Asia Cup will commence on 14 July against Nepal, followed by matches against India A on 16 July and Sri Lanka A on 18 July. As defending champions, they will be eager to showcase their skills and compete at the highest level against tough opponents.
