India Shines with Six Medals at World Boxing Cup Brazil 2025

The World Boxing Cup Brazil 2025, held in Foz do Iguaçu, wrapped up in early April 2025, and India had a great showing. The Indian men’s boxing team won six medals: one gold, one silver, and four bronze. This event was the first big boxing tournament of the year, with over 130 fighters from 19 countries taking part. India sent 10 boxers, and their success has given fans a lot to cheer about.

Hitesh was the star for India, winning the gold medal in the 70kg weight class. He didn’t even have to fight in the final because his opponent, Odel Kamara from England, was injured and couldn’t step into the ring. This is called a walkover, and it handed Hitesh the top prize. Before that, he beat a strong French boxer, Makan Traore, 5-0 in the semifinals. Hitesh said a 10-day training camp in Brazil before the event helped him learn new moves and get ready. His gold was India’s biggest win at the tournament.

Abhinash Jamwal also made it to the final of World Boxing Cup, in the 65kg weight class. He faced Yuri Reis, a Brazilian boxer the home crowd loved. Jamwal fought hard but lost 5-0, meaning all the judges picked Reis as the winner. This gave Jamwal the silver medal. He had done well earlier, winning 5-0 against Italy’s Gianluigi Malanga in the semifinals, but Reis was too strong in the final. Still, Jamwal’s silver added to India’s medal count.

Four other Indian boxers picked up bronze medals after reaching the semifinals. Jadumani Singh, in the 50kg class, lost a tight match 2-3 to Uzbekistan’s Asilbek Jalilov. Manish Rathore, in the 55kg class, was beaten 5-0 by Kazakhstan’s Nursultan Altynbek. Sachin, in the 60kg class, lost to Poland’s Pawel Brach, and Vishal, in the 90kg class, fell 5-0 to Uzbekistan’s Turabek Khabibullaev. In this tournament, both boxers who lose in the semifinals get bronze, so India ended up with four of them.

For India, these six medals are a good sign as they look ahead to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The training camp in Brazil paid off, helping the team get used to the place and improve their skills. Fans are proud of the boxers, and this success could push them to aim even higher in the future. It’s a happy moment for Indian boxing.
