Fixing in T20 league! this big team was thrown out of the tournament
The fifth season of the Lanka Premier League will start from 1st July and the final is scheduled to be held on 21st July. Just before the beginning of the tournament, there are dangers of spot fixing threatening the integrity of this league. Due to this reason a team has been expelled from this league.
The owner of the Dambulla Thunders franchise and the CEO of Imperial Sports Group, Tamim Rahman, was arrested on Wednesday, 22 May 2014 due to the suspicion of involvement in match-fixing. An official of the Special Investigation Unit for the Prevention of Sports-related Crimes in the Sports Ministry confirmed the arrest. For this reason, LPL has issued a statement informing that Dambulla Thunders have been expelled from the league.

No concrete information is out yet
However, no concrete information has come to light regarding what action will be taken against Rahman. But the integrity and smooth functioning of the Lanka Premier League is of utmost importance. The purpose of expelling the team from the league is to maintain the values and reputation of the LPL. This is to ensure that all participants adhere to the highest standards of conduct and sportsmanship.

Tamim Rahman became the owner of Dambulla Thunders this year
It is noteworthy that Tamim Rahman was arrested just a day after the LPL 2024 auction and he will be kept in custody till May 31 for further investigation. Rahman had bought Dambulla Thunders in April this year. Rahman is under investigation for allegations related to match fixing as well as betting. If all the charges are proved against him, Rahman will have to pay up to 10 years in jail and also have to pay a heavy fine.
In 2019, Sri Lanka became the first country in South Asia to criminalize match-fixing and corruption in sports. In recent times, Sri Lankan authorities have taken several strict measures against those involved in cricket-related corruption. A Sri Lankan court ordered Indian nationals Yoni Patel and P Akash, both owners of a team in the unrecognized Legends Cricket League, to surrender their passports. It is alleged that there was fixing in the league match played between 8th March. Both are currently on bail.
