The Ghost of Match-Fixing Haunts UAE Ahead of T20 Qualifiers

The ghost of match-fixing haunts back the gentleman game and this time it is UAE. Three UAE players including the skipper Mohammad Naveed are suspending for breaching various ICC anti-corruption code.

The three players are Mohammed Naveed, Shaiman Anwar, Qadeer Ahmed and a cricket participant are charged for 13 breaches of ICC Anti-corruption codes. The UAE players are given 14 days’ time to respond to the charges.

Charges include match-fixing

Mohammad Naveed

The charges are related to being directly involved in match-fixing or agreeing to fix the match or not providing the information to the Anti-corruption for the upcoming T20 qualifiers that shall start on Friday in UAE.

The charges made by ECB are related to T10 league that will be held in Abu Dhabi in November.

Qadeer Ahmed

He is charged for six breaches that revolve around the UAE vs Zimbabwe series in April 2019.

Shaiman Anwar

He is charged for two breaches of the ICC code related to T20 qualifiers, trying to fix the qualifiers or not informing about the offence.

Mohammad Naveed (breach of article 2.1.1, article 2.4.4)

Breach of Article 2.1.1 – Contriving, or being a party to an agreement or effort to fix or contrive or otherwise influence improperly, the result, progress, conduct or any other aspect of matches in the upcoming ICC World T20 Qualifiers 2019.

Breach of Article 2.4.4 – Failing to disclose to the ACU full details of any approaches or invitations received to engage in conduct in relation to the ICC World T20 Qualifiers 2019 that would amount to corrupt conduct under the Code.

Mh. Naveed has also been charged by the English Cricket Board for breaching ECB code of conduct at the T10 league (including previous editions). ECB has also issued two charges that include

Breach of Article 2.1.1 – contriving, or being party to an agreement or effort to fix or contrive or otherwise influence improperly, the result, progress, conduct or any other aspect of matches in the upcoming T10 League 2019

Breach of Article 2.4.4 – failing to disclose to the ACU full details of any approaches or invitations received to engage in conduct that would amount to corrupt conduct under the Code.

Qadeer Ahmed Khan

Qadeer Khan has been charged for six breaches in ICC code of conduct that includes

Breach of Article 2.4.4 – failing to disclose to the ACU full details of any approaches or invitations received to engage in conduct that would amount to Corrupt Conduct under the Code in relation to the Zimbabwe v UAE series in April 2019.

Breach of Article 2.3.2 – disclosing Inside Information to Mehar Chhayakar in August 2019 in circumstances where he knew or should have known that the information might be used for betting purposes.

Breach of Article 2.4.4 – failing to disclose to the ACU full details of any approaches or invitations received to engage in conduct that would amount to Corrupt Conduct under the Code in relation to the Netherlands v UAE series in August 2019.

Breach of Article 2.4.5 – failing to disclose to the ACU full details of any facts or matters that came to his attention that may evidence Corrupt Conduct under the Code by another Participant.

Breach of Article 2.4.6 – failing or refusing to cooperate with an investigation being carried out by the ACU in relation to possible Corrupt Conduct under the Code.

Breach of Article 2.4.7 – obstructing or delaying an ACU investigation including by concealing information that may be relevant to that investigation.

Shaiman Anwar Butt

Shaiman Anwar Butt has been charged for two breaches of ICC code of conduct that includes

Breach of Article 2.1.1 – contriving, or being a party to an agreement or effort to fix or contrive or otherwise influence improperly, the result, progress, conduct or any other aspect of matches in the upcoming ICC World T20 Qualifiers 2019.

Breach of Article 2.4.4 – failing to disclose to the ACU full details of any approaches or invitations received to engage in conduct in relation to the ICC World T20 Qualifiers 2019 that would amount to corrupt conduct under the Code.

Another name that emerged in charges is Mehardeep Chhayakar, who participated in Ajman cricket is also charged for one breach in ICC code

Breach of Article 2.4.6 – failing or refusing to cooperate with an investigation being carried out by the ACU in relation to possible Corrupt Conduct under the Code.

ICC has denied making any comments related to the breach of code of conduct.
