Among India, South Africa & Pakistan who are most likely to qualify from Top 2 of T20 World Cup 2022?

The results of most matches at the T20 World Cup 2022 were determined using the Duckworth-Lewis method (D/Ls Method), which has caused some of the tournament’s best teams to suffer.

One of the favourites to win the main event, England, was defeated by Ireland by 5 runs using the D/L method. All eyes are on the final game of both groups to see who will advance to the Top 2 after the points tables in both groups radically changed.

In this piece, we’ll examine the scenario among the clubs from Group 2 with the best chances of reaching the Top 2. Let’s first look at the current point standings using the format shown below:

Clearly, it is impossible for Zimbabwe and the Netherlands to advance to the Top 4 even if they win their final match. Moving on to Bangladesh, if they defeat Pakistan in their final game, they will end with six points, but in that event, South Africa would have to lose against the Netherlands in order to advance to the Top 2.

Moving on to Pakistan, many different permutations and combinations are necessary for them to qualify. To start, they must defeat Bangladesh because they have a positive net run rate, which would earn them 6 points, but in order for them to qualify, either India had to lose to Zimbabwe or South Africa had to lose to the Netherlands.

Moving on to South Africa, they were considered favourites to win that game. However, in order to qualify for the flagship event, they must win their final game against the Netherlands, which would earn them 7 points and guarantee them a spot in the top two.

Last but not least, India appears to be strong favourites to advance to the Top 2 of the main tournament. If they win their match against Zimbabwe, they would finish first in Group 2 and go to the Top 4 of the T20 World Cup in 2022.

India may lose its status in the Top 2 with a tiny net run rate margin if it loses against Zimbabwe and Pakistan defeats Bangladesh and South Africa defeats the Netherlands.

With the exception of Pakistan and South Africa losing their remaining games, all equations in Group 2 are conceivable, thus we won’t draw any conclusions until the final ball of the Group stage is bowled on November 6th.

Let’s see how qualifies from Top 2 of this Group for T20 World Cup 2022.
