Zimbabwe beat the USA by 304 runs in World Cup qualifiers

Zimbabwe has achieved a massive feat in the World Cup qualifier, securing the second-largest ODI victory. They won over the USA by a staggering margin of 304 runs, propelling themselves into the Super-6 stage of the qualifiers.

Opting to bat first, Zimbabwe put up 408 runs. In response, the American team struggled and could only score 104 runs. Zimbabwe’s captain, Sean Williams, played a sensational innings, scoring a remarkable century. He smashed an impressive 174 off 101 balls, including 21 fours and five sixes.

This victory not only stands as Zimbabwe’s biggest win in ODIs but also marks the second-largest triumph in the history of world cricket. The record for the most significant win in ODIs is held by the Indian team, who defeated Sri Lanka by a huge 317 runs.

Zimbabwe Achieves Record-Breaking ODI Score

In a remarkable feat, Zimbabwe has achieved its highest-ever score in ODIs, surpassing the 400-run milestone for the first time in the team’s history. Previously, their highest score stood at 351/7 against Kenya in 2009. 

Sean Williams’s Century as Zimbabwe Sets Record Total

After winning the toss, Zimbabwe opted to bat first in the match. The opening pair of Joylord Gumbie and Innocent Kaia started the innings, with Kaia contributing 32 runs before being dismissed, and Gumbie scored a half-century with 78 runs.

Captain Williams displayed remarkable form throughout his innings, ultimately reaching a brilliant century, amassing 174 runs. Following Gumbie’s dismissal, Sikandar Raza joined Williams at the crease, adding another impressive 48 runs in just 27 balls. Unfortunately, Raza fell short of his half-century, leaving with 48 runs, while Ryan Burl contributed 47 runs to the team’s total.

Subsequently, Luke Jongwe and Tadiwanashe Marumani scored 19 runs before being dismissed. Brad Evans remained not out with three runs. Ultimately, Zimbabwe posted 408 runs after losing six wickets in their allotted 50 overs.

Abhishek Paradkar claimed three wickets for the USA team, supported by Jessy Singh with two wickets and Nosthush Kenjige with one wicket. The bowling effort from the American side provided some respite amidst Zimbabwe’s formidable batting display.

Zimbabwe Reaches to Super 6 Stage Alongside West Indies and Netherlands

Zimbabwe, West Indies, and Netherlands have emerged as the victorious teams from Group-A, securing their places in the Super 6 stage. With three eliminated in group A.

Meanwhile, in Group B, three teams have successfully moved to the Super 6 stage. Sri Lanka and Scotland showcased their form, each amassing 6 points. Additionally, Oman secured their place in the Super 6 with 4 points, firming their chances in the tournament.
