Lowest score in an inning in ICC ODI Cricket World Cup Qualifiers

World Cup

The ICC ODI Cricket World Cup Qualifiers is a crucial event in the game of cricket since they determine whether or not certain teams will get the opportunity to compete in the World Cup.

The qualifiers give the associate nations a chance to show off their abilities in front of a large audience and also give them the potential to pull off some upsets by defeating the top international teams. Teams competing in this tournament give it their all and make every effort to fill that blank spot on the World Cup points tally.

Sometimes, teams try to do their best and want to perform beyond their capabilities but fail to do so and instead wind up getting their names listed against an unwanted record. This is also because of luck many times. Below, we take a look at the lowest inning total in World Cup qualifier history.

East Africa (26 all out)

The unwanted record for the lowest team total in the history of IC ODI Cricket World Cup Qualifiers belongs to East Africa, who were all out for a mere 26 against the Netherlands in Malaysia. The match was played on March 24, 1997. This score came in the first innings of the match, as East Africa was able to play only 15 overs and the Netherlands chased down the target in just 5 overs for the loss of two wickets.

USA (32 all out)

The second-lowest score in World Cup qualifier history belongs to the USA team, which also has one of the highest scores in World Cup qualifier history. The USA’s forgettable performance came against Kenya in the 1997 World Cup being played in Malaysia. The standard of cricket in these qualifiers was very poor for some of the teams.

Fiji (41 all out)

In the 2001 ICC ODI Cricket World Cup Qualifiers in Canada, Fiji were bowled out for just 41 runs in 20.4 overs by a formidable Scotland side. This score was made by Fiji batting first as Scotland chased it down in 13.3 overs in what seemed to be a difficult chase for them. It is Fiji’s worst performance in any World Cup qualifier to date.

Oman (41 all out)

In 2005, Oman reminded everyone of Fiji’s total against Scotland in 2001 as they were bowled out for the same score against Papua New Guinea in the World Cup qualifiers. The match was played in Ireland, where the Oman team put on a really shameful performance.

Gibraltar (44 all out)

Once again, in the 1997 ICC ODI Cricket World Cup Qualifiers, a very low score was registered, this time by the Gibraltar team against a strong Kenya side. Kenya were able to chase the total in just 13 overs with the loss of three wickets. This match was once again a forgettable performance by the Gibraltar squad, which recorded one of the lowest scores in World Cup qualifier history.
