Yuvraj Singh Bats For Cricketers’ Association, Expects Drastic Changes Under Sourav Ganguly

The former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh made a controversial remark on Sunday, stating that the Indian players are compelled to play cricket even if they are carrying injuries.

According to Yuvraj, the players ignore their mental and physical condition to play for India because they have to ensure that their berth is secured in the squad. Citing Glen Maxwell’s example, Yuvraj batted for the players’ association to look after the Indian cricketers.

The Lodha committee has already recommended a players’ association for the Indian players and the recommendation has been implemented as well. But, it remains to be seen how strong the association turns out to be.

“We deserve it. Because there are a lot of times we have been asked to play cricket that we don’t want to. We have to play with the pressure that if we don’t play we will be thrown out,” Yuvraj told the reporters in Abu Dhabi where he has to take part in the T10 league shortly.

Yuvraj has high hopes with Sourav Ganguly as the BCCI president and he reckons with Ganguly in charge, the players’ interests will be taken into account because he has been a player himself and he understands a player’s perspective.

“I see great things happening to Indian cricket with Sourav as President. Cricket, from the administration point of view, and the cricketers’ point of view are two different things,” Yuvraj added.

When asked about the future of his former teammate and India’s world cup winning captain MS Dhoni, Yuvraj refused to pass any comment saying that it’s not up to him to take a call in that regard.

Yuvraj thinks it’s up to the selection committee to take a call on the future of the players and hence, this question should be asked to the selection committee.
