World Deaf Athletics Championships
While we get to witness a number of sports events and championships for Athletes and Sportspersons round the year, there are only a few of those championships which are especially been organized for people with certain Physical and Mental Disabilities.
The World Deaf athletics championship is one such sporting event which gets held after every four years for all the players with Hearing Impairments. While this championship came into existence in 2008 when 318 athletes assembled to participate in this “One of its Kinds” sporting event at Turkey.
Inaugural World Deaf Athletics Championship 2008
Host: Turkey
The First-ever World deaf athletics championship got kick-started in Turkey in 2008 under the governance of International Committee of Sports for Deaf. The Inaugural event saw 318 athletes from 32 countries from around the world participating in different events for both Men and Women Category.
Youngest Athlete to Participate in the Championship
Although There were many athletes from different age groups who participated in this championship, the youngest of the participants in the Men’s category was Wang Shih- Wei from Chinese Taipei who was 16 years old at the time of his participation in the event. On the other hand, the youngest participant in the Women’s category was Golovona Ksenia from Russia who also attended this event at the age of 16.
Oldest Athlete to participate in the championship
When it comes to the Men’s category, the oldest participant was Sayapin Vladimir from Kazakhstan who participated at the event at an age of 49 years. The same age slot also witnessed the oldest athlete to participate in the Women’s category as well where Bishop Fiona from Great Britain came up as a participant at an age of 49 years.
Medals Tally
If we talk about the Medals tally, Russia emerged as the leader amongst the rest of the participating countries with 22 medals under their belt which included 7 gold, 11 silver and 4 Bronze medals. Ukraine secured the second spot with a total number of 15 medals with 5 Gold, 8 silvers and 2 Bronze medals to their name.
World Deaf Athletics Championship 2012 (second edition)
Host: Canada
The Second edition of the World Deaf Athletics Championships was held in the City of Toronto in Canada. The event saw 241 athletes coming from 27 countries to participate in various events of the Tournament.
Youngest Athlete to participate in the Championship
The Youngest participant in the Men’s category was Abhishek Saini from India who attended the event at an age of 16 years. On the other hand, the youngest participant in the Women’s category was Faith Mukami from Kenya with 15 years of age at the time of her Participation.
Oldest Athlete to participate in the Championship
The event also saw some of the oldest participants coming over from every part of the world and amongst those, Janusz Czerwinski from Canada was the oldest one in the Men’s category with an age of 46 years. At the same time, Juana Mariana Orta from Mexico registered as the oldest women to participate at an age of 37 years.
Medals Tally
If we talk about the Medals Tally, Russia emerged as the leaders amongst the 27 participating nations with a total of 20 medals which included 4 gold, 8 silvers and 8 Bronze medals in their kitty. On the other hand, Ukraine grabbed the Second spot once again by claiming 10 medals in total which included 6 Gold, 1 Silver and 3 Bronze medals under their belt.
Third Edition of World deaf Athletic championship 2016
Host: Bulgaria
It was in the year 2016 when the Famous championship entered into its Third edition and got started in the city of Stara Zagora, Bulgaria on 25 June 2016. It was for the first time that 38 countries in total participated in the Championship with over 262 athletes from around the world. There were 230 Male participants in Total while the numbers of Female participants were 98.
Youngest Athlete to participate in the Championship
Nadka Nachova from Bulgaria was the youngest participant in the Women’s category with an age of 16 years at the time of participation. On the other hand, It was Vasyl Taran from Ukraine who was the youngest amongst all the Male participants in the championship with an age of 16 years as well.
Oldest Athlete to participate in the Championship
Talking about the oldest participants in the Mega event, it was Candy Hawkins from Great Britain who participated in the championship at an age of 45 years. On the other side, Nico Dumalin from Belgium became the Oldest every participant to attend the championship ever when he registered for the event at an age of 49 years.
Medals Tally
Talking about the Medals tally, it was once again the Russian Federation who proved its Dominance in the championship’s history by claiming the top spot third time in a row. Not only they grabbed 42 medals in total with 22 Gold, 12 Silver and 8 Bronze medals under their name, but they also created a new record of grabbing the most numbers of Medals in the History of the Championship.
On the other side, it was Ukraine again who stuck to their consistency on the No 2 spot by claiming 18 Medals in Total with 4 Gold, 9 Silvers and 5 Bronze medals under their name.
Winners Prediction and Teams to watch out for the 2020 World Deaf Athletics Championship
Although the Host nation for the 4 edition of the World Deaf Athletics Championships is yet to be announced, there’s no doubt about the fact that we can surely witness a greater number of countries participating with their full strength in the event.
Moreover, Russian federation is once again expected to continue their dream Run in the Championship while grabbing the Top spot in the medals tally and Ukraine seems to be the only country which is presenting any kind of challenge in front of them. Still, there are some other countries like China and USA which can come up with a big surprise anytime and pose a big threat to the Dominance of Russia and Ukraine for the first and second spot respectively.
