Virat Kohli

Indian skipper Virat Kohli has time and again spoken about his love for Test Cricket. Whether it is a day and night test match or World Test Championship, anything which is done in the interest to promote the oldest format of the game, he has always lent his voice for that.

Recently, he shared a post on his Instagram where he wrote,

“Nothing comes close to playing an intense game in whites. What a blessing to be able to play test cricket for India”.

There is no doubt that Virat Kohli was good in the shortest format of the game at the beginning of his career but, of late, with the way he has performed in red-ball cricket in all conditions he has become a modern-day great across all formats.

Kohli overcame every obstacle he was facing in Test Cricket especially after the rare failure that he experienced in England in 2014 to become a modern-day great.

His mastery over scoring runs in English and Australian conditions outside India made him the most dominating batsman in the World Cricket at the moment.

Leading India to number one position in Test Cricket will always be one of the highlights of his Captaincy career. However, as per the new ICC points table, India is at number 3 position in Test Cricket. He also led India to win the maiden Test series in Australia. Virat Kohli is also India’s most successful captain in Test cricket in terms of matches India won under his captaincy.

Wasim Jaffer picks Steve Smith over Virat Kohli as a better Test Batsman

Taking about his stats in the oldest format of the game, Kohli has scored 7240 runs in 86 Test Matches at an average of 53.6. He has scored 27 Test Centuries and 22 Half-centuries. His closest competitor in the red ball cricket is Steve Smith but he is way behind in limited over’s cricket, if compare his runs and centuries with Kohli.

The biggest tasks, right now, for Kohli are to lead India to victory in away conditions like England, South Africa, and New Zealand and most importantly, winning ICC Trophies.
