  • On 19th October 1972, a video game competition was held at Stanford University for the game Spacewar.  All the students of Standford were invited to participate in the “Intergalactic Spacewar Olympics” where the winner received a year-long subscription to Rolling Stone. 

 

  • Sega organized a Japan TV gaming championship in 1974, which was a nationwide arcade video game tournament where the tournament was held across 300 locations and eventually 16 finalists competed against each other for the final battle held at Tokyo’s Hotel Pacific. 

 

  • Atari organized “Space Invader Championship” was touted as early large scale video game event which attracted the eyeballs of more than 10,000 participants across United States.

  • League of Legends Championship was held by 2014, in Seoul, South Korea where more than 400,000 fans were present during opening and closing ceremony of marquee event. 

 

  • In 2015, first dedicated Esports facility was launched at Santa Ana, California, United States. 

 

  • In 2021, China announced a law which stated that minors would not be given permission to play Video games, where they will be not allowed to play more than three hours a week as China is one of the largest market in video games so this law might dampen the flourishing growth rate of Esports in the world.
