Hansie Cronje (2000)

One of the biggest match-fixing scandals in cricket history occurred in 2000 after the Delhi Police admitted that they had secretly recorded exchanges between Sanjay Chawla and Hansie Cronje. The audience idolized Cronje, a popular and brilliant South African cricket player.

However, because of his association with Sanjay Chawla, he raised controversy. Sanjay was identified as a prominent participant in the Indian betting network. At first, Cronje grieved when he rejected all allegations of match-fixing, but he refrained under cross-examination. In the end, Hansie Cronje was prohibited from playing cricket for the rest of his life.

IPL Fixing Scandal (2013)

Ajit Candela, Ankeet Chavan, and S. Sreesanth, three cricket players with the Rajasthan Royals, were charged by the Delhi Police for taking part in spot-fixing during the sixth Indian Premier League season.

Authorities then began investigating 23 more people for gambling-related offenses and other unlawful behavior, including co-owners Vindu Dara Singh and Gurunath Meiyappan, artists, and bookies. Authorities further charged them with having ties to well-known underworld figures Chhota Shakeel and Dawood Ibrahim.


Pakistan no-ball Scandal (2010)

Players of the Pakistani national cricket team were exposed in 2010 after an undercover investigation by News of the World revealed they had taken money from gambler Mazhar Majeed in exchange for bowling no-balls.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) found Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif, and Mohammad Amir guilty and suspended them for five to ten years. In 2011, they were also accused of planning to intentionally throw no-ball during Test matches; for that offense, they received prison terms that ranged from 6 to 32 months.
