The NBA fans all across the globe, along with the teams are longing for the season to resume as early as possible. The officials are considering all the available options for tackling the situation of the COVID-19. The current situation has led to the suspension of the league with no such notice of when it will resume.

However, the NBA has discussed the potential contingency plans with the League’s Board of Directors on a phone call on Tuesday night and discussed cutting down some games during the regular season, possibly to 78 games and also considering of changing the format of the playoffs and the addition of a midyear tournament for all 30 clubs in time for the 2021-22 season. The playoffs may have the teams as the best of five instead of seven in order to continue the tournament and finish it on time.

The Board of officials would likely make a way of teams to attenuate the loss of revenue of all the teams due to the season suspension. After the  Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released an order that any event having the gathering of 50 or more people shall not take place, it was clear that the NBA wouldn’t start until the mid or late June.

The NBA with the motive of tackling its financial losses, as the league stands to lose about $500 million in just the ticket sales alone if the season is completely called off. So as to help with the inward costs during this tempestuous time, the NBA is set to raise its credit line up to $1.2 billion from $650 million. So, not commencing the season again is never a good idea in this case, so the contingency plans are still the last option, keeping in mind of not hampering the calendar of the 2020-21 season in any way.
