New world record by Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin has become the first cricketer to score 50 or more on 20 occasions as a batsman in Test cricket as well as taking more than 30 5-wicket halls in bowling. So far this had not happened in the history of 147 years of Test cricket, so Ashwin has become the first cricketer in the world to achieve this incredible feat.

The match against Bangladesh is the 101st match of Ashwin’s test career. He has scored more than 3,400 runs in batting and has hit 14 half-centuries besides putting 6 centuries during his career. Meanwhile, he has scalped 5 or more wickets in any one inning on 36 occasions in Test cricket.

Ashwin’s figures also become interesting because he has scored his 4 centuries batting at number eight or below. The record for scoring the most centuries on the eight or lower order so far is in the name of former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori. He scored 5 centuries batting in these positions.

Ashwin’s superb record in Chennai
