Australian former cricketer, Michael Hussey threw light on MS Dhoni’s leadership skills and why he is so successful at run-chases.
Once a vital cog in the Australian side, Mike Hussey has said the former Indian captain has an enormous amount of self- confidence and this is perhaps the reason why he is so successful at run chases.
“Dhoni is the greatest finisher of all time that the cricketing world has ever produced,” Hussey told Sanjay Manjarekar on ESPNcricinfo’s Videocast.
“Dhoni can keep his cool and make the opposition captain blink first. Dhoni also has unbelievable power. He knows that when he needs to clear the ropes he can do it. He has that kind of self-belief. Honestly, I didn’t have that kind of belief in myself.”
One who never shies away from learning more about the game, Michael Hussey took MS Dhoni‘s insights on how to finish a match at crunch situations.
“I tried not to let it reach 12 or 13 runs an over. And I learnt this from MS Dhoni. He is incredible. He believes that he who panics last wins the game. So Dhoni would keep his cool, and keep it longer because the pressure is on the bowler as well.”
A late bloomer in cricket, Michael Hussey grabbed eyeballs with his consistent run in international cricket. An ardent follower of consistency and perseverance, Hussey was a vital cog in the middle order for Australia. The southpaw often took the team out of trouble when the top-order used to collapse or would give a solid finish in the end.
Given his style of play, he was more suited for the limited over’s cricket, however, it was the longest format of the game where he enjoyed considerable success.
Hussey played 79 tests in his illustrious career in which he scored 6235 runs at an average of 51.5. He has 19 centuries and 29 half-centuries to his name in test cricket.
The southpaw also represented Australia in 185 test matches and scored 5442 runs at an average of 48.1
