Following Sunday’s match against the Lucknow Super Giants, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar got into a fairly amusing altercation with Gujarat Titans pacers Mohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami. Shami reclaimed the Purple Cap as GT defeated LSG by 56 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Mohit was meant to present Shami with the Purple Cap during the post-game awards ceremony. Before he did, though, Gavaskar became perplexed over which of the two LSG pacers had the honour.
Gavaskar by mistake congratulated Mohit instead of Shami.
During the post-match presentation ceremony, Gavaskar remarked, “Many congratulations Mohit for holding the Purple Cap; you’re getting it from Shami.” The Purple Cap, on the other hand, belonged to Shami, not Mohit, as he was keen to point out.

I’m grateful, but I’ll give it to Shami because I don’t have the Purple Cap said Mohit.
In Ahmedabad, Hardik Pandya defeated his older sibling Krunal as GT blasted LSG by 56 runs.
Hardik and Krunal joked and hugged at the beginning of the first-ever IPL encounter between two teams captained by siblings, but things quickly became serious as Gujarat’s opening stand of 142 runs between Wriddhiman Saha (81) and Shubman Gill (94 not out) propelled Gujarat to their highest-ever IPL total of 227-2.
Kyle Mayers (48) and Quinton de Kock (70) led Lucknow’s strong response, but their score of 171-7 allowed Gujarat to maintain their lead in the 10-team standings.
Mohit has taken 12 wickets thus far in eight matches, posting statistics of 4-29. Shami, on the other hand, is in first place on the leaderboard after 11 games in which he took 19 wickets.
