‘Indian Monster’ Crowned Mr Universe 2019 In South Korea

India’s Chitransh Natesan announced the country’s arrival in style in the bodybuilding arena around the globe after he was crowned Mr Universe 2019 at the 11th World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship (WBPF) 2019 in Korea. Chitharesh Natesan, who hails from Kerela, created history as he became the first Indian to be crowned Mr Universe. The Indian contingent that participated in the event was adjudged second overall as most of the bodybuilders from the Indian squad finished in top 5 of all the events that were held in the competition.

Former India opener and batting great Sachin Tendulkar took to twitter to congratulate the team and Chitharesh Natesan. The master Blaster tweeted

“Amazing to see Indians conquer new sporting desciplines! Congrats to our bodybuilders who came 2nd in the World Bodybuilding & Physique Sports Championship ‘Team Category’ in S Korea. Kudos to Chitharesh Natesan on becoming the 1st to win the Mr. Universe 2019 title.”

Chitaresh or the ‘Indian Monster’ as he is fondly called by his followers competed in the Men’s 90 kg weight category. He took the top spot after defeating compatriots Senthil Kumaran and Rajendra Mani who took the second and the third place respectively as India dominated the 90Kg weight category.

India had a great day at the 11th World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship (WBPF) 2019 in Korea as a number of Indian bodybuilders were seen finishing on the podium. Benjamin Jerold Rajendran took the silver in the Junior men’s up to 75kg weight category. Mohammed Zameer Ahmed also settled for a silver in the Junior over 75 KG category.

In the senior men’s Murugesan Ramamurthy finished second on the podium in 5kgkG. India started its golden journey with Nayak Rajkishore who took gold in the 70 Kg weight category. He was followed by Thundiparambil Ramakrishna with a silver medal finish.

Katurde Sagar Krishna, Venkatesan Jayaprakash, Ramachandran Sathish Kumar dominated the 75 kg category as they took the gold, silver and bronze respectively. In the 80 kg India bagged another gold and silver as Boby Abraham Singh and Sanro N Singh finished in the top two.

Mohan Subramaniam and Elumalai Karthik took the silver and bronze in the 85 kg men’s division. In the 100 Kg weight category India once again finished in the top two with Thiyam Dayananda Singh and Shetty Rohit picking the first and the second spot respectively.

Viresh Dhotre gold medal (40-49 yrs over 80 KG)

Baldev Kumar gold medal (50-60 yrs ovr 80 Kg)

Katari Satyanarayan Raju silver medal (over 60 yrs)

Nitin Sharma bronze medal in Men’s Sports Physique up to 175 cm

Shinu Chovva silver medal in Men’s Sports Physique up to 180 cm
