Three records of Ben Stokes that might never be broken

Since his debut for England in 2011, Ben Stokes has had a remarkable international career. The all-rounder has experienced both the highest of highs and lowest of lows, as seen in the T20 World Cup in 2016 and 2019, respectively. Despite the challenges, he has emerged stronger, as evidenced in a documentary about him. As England’s Test captain, he has led the team with his unique approach that has been nothing short of entertaining.

From his debut, Stokes has displayed a special quality that sets him apart from others. He is a genuine match-winner with a remarkable ability to make things happen, even today. Along the way, he has broken a few records that are unlikely to be surpassed. Here are three of his most impressive records.

Stokes has the most sixes in Test cricket

As England’s Test captain, Ben Stokes sets the tone and leads by example. He believes in practicing what he preaches and wouldn’t ask his teammates to do something he wouldn’t do himself. This approach has contributed to the team’s ultra-aggressive style of play, which has been successful.

Stokes recently broke the record for the most sixes in Test cricket, surpassing his current head coach Brendon McCullum. With 109 sixes and counting, he leads the list, while McCullum had hit 107 during his career.

Most runs batting at number six

In his early Test career, Ben Stokes made an impact by breaking the record for the highest score by a number six batter. In a game against South Africa in Cape Town in 2016, he played a remarkable innings, scoring 258 runs from just 198 balls. He hit 30 fours and 11 sixes at a strike rate of 130 in a Test match! His outstanding performance earned him the Player of the Match award, thanks to his stupendous knock and contribution with the ball.

Highest partnership for the sixth wicket in a Test

During the same Test against South Africa, Jonny Bairstow partnered with Ben Stokes to create a mammoth stand. The two scored 399 runs together, the highest partnership for the sixth wicket, helping England to post a huge total of 629/6 before declaring.

At 223/5, England were in a difficult position before the two combined to lead the team to safety. Stokes scored 258, while Bairstow hit an unbeaten 150 off 191 balls. Despite Hashim Amla’s double century and Temba Bavuma’s maiden century, the game ended in a draw.
