Bangladesh Players Call Off The Strike, India Tour of Bangladesh to go on as scheduled

Dhaka Tribune

The Bangladesh cricketers have decided to call off the strike that they had started against the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Monday. The strike had caused a bit of discomfort, not only to the BCB, but to the BCCI too, as there was an India vs Bangladesh series scheduled next month.

It was important for the players and the BCB to come to an agreement for the India tour to go on smoothly and it didn’t seem to be happening at one stage yesterday because the no. of demands of the players, which was 11 initially, went to 13.

But, eventually, the BCB managed to solve the issue as they assured the cricketers that most of their demands would be met, except a couple of them.

The one related to the Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) has not been agreed upon by the BCB as it doesn’t come under their jurisdiction.

The Bangladesh players had demanded for the CWAB president, Naeem Islam, to step down from his position.

The players were of the view that CWAB wasn’t as active as they wanted it to be and the reason was that Naeem was holding other positions as well, apart from the position of the CWAB president, which was putting him into a situation of “conflict of interest”

The BCB also made it very clear that they have not yet changed their decision of not allowing the players to take part in more than two foreign leagues.

The BCB president, Nazmul Hasan, insisted that not all the Bangladesh cricketers get offers to play in more than two foreign leagues anyway. Whenever a cricketer gets more than two offers from the foreign countries, BCB will deal with the matter.

“BCB had nothing to do with the CWAB related demand, while we have decided to agree on the remaining demands apart from the one where it was stated that players will be allowed to play in more than two franchise-based tournaments.”, Hasan told the reporters in a press conference.

With the strike of the Bangladesh players now being over, the India vs Bangladesh series is set to go on as scheduled.
