Eden Gardens Test To Be A Day-Night Affair

India Times

BCCI: The BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has revealed that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is in agreement with his proposal of playing a day-night test match on their upcoming tour of India and an official word from their side will come soon.

The second match of the India vs Bangladesh test series will be played under the lights and pink ball will be used rather than the conventional red ball which is generally used in the longest format of the game.

There will be no lunch break as the game will start in the afternoon. A tea break will mark the end of the first session, while the second session will end for a dinner break.

Managing the dew will be important for the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) which is the host association for the game. The effects of dew will have to be reduced as much as possible, otherwise the balance will tilt heavily in the favour of the batsmen.

Dew is the main reason why many people are skeptical about day-night test cricket especially in the subcontinent where there is always a lot of dew at night during the winters.

The white ball cricket, getting affected by dew, is not a big deal because it is tilted in the favour of the batsmen anyway, but test cricket maintains a balance between bat and ball and if the conditions start tilting it one way or the other, it will lose its charm.

The effects of dew can be nullified by a lively pitch which will keep the bowlers in play even with the wet ball.

Eden Gardens has actually been producing some really lively decks in the recent times where there is quite a bit of grass. The curators might want to leave grass on the wicket for this game too.
