IPL 2020 came with full of surprises as it has shattered all the viewership records beating the most popular English Premier League viewership in UK this year. Chennai Super Kings being the most successful franchise of cash-rich league could not qualify for playoffs for the first time in all the 13th edition that they have played before. As Dhoni said that CSK will be looking to rebuild the team for IPL 2021 in the upcoming auctions as per the reports they were all set to replace experience players like Watson, Tahir and Jadhav with young guns for next edition.

Immediately after few days their ace all-rounder Shane Watson announced his retirement from all forms of the game.He shared this news on his official Twitter account where he wrote “This closing chapter is going to be so hard to top, but I am going to try. I truly am forever grateful to have lived this amazing dream. Now onto the next exciting one…#thankyou”.

Watson also spoke on his Youtube channel where he talked about the event in his life where his mother took him to watch a Test match when he was just 5 years old and after watching that game he decided that he wants to play for Australia in Future.

“The first people I want to thank is my mum and dad, who did everything they could to make me realize my dream. My mum and dad sacrificed so much,” he said.

He went on to thank his sister, wife. He also thanked his teams, coaches, mentors and teammates.

He also stated, “To think that I am finishing up my playing days as a 39-years-old after all of my injury setbacks that I had along the way, I feel so ridiculously fortunate.”

It has been a mixed year for Shane Watson in IPL 2020 as he scored 299 runs from 11 matches at a strike rate of 121.05. As CSK would not like to remember this season for sure as they finished 7th in points table after completing their league stage.However

in last 3 matches, they won all their matches due to individual brilliance of Ruturaj Gaikwad who scored three back to back half-centuries for Yellow army.

Watson who retired from International cricket in 2016. He was also the member of that Australian team who lifted 2007 and 2015 Cricket World Cup. He won Player of the tournament award for 2012 T20 World Cup. Watson played in 59 Tests, 190 ODIs and 58 T20Is for Australia and scored 10,950 international runs.
