Ashleigh Gardener is a cricketer who represents the Australian women’s cricket team, the New South Wales breakers in the women’s National Cricket League and Sydney Sixers in the Australian women’s Big bash League. In 2017, she became the first-ever indigenous Australian women to play in a cricket world cup, when she represented her country playing against Pakistan.

Early Life & Journey

Ashleigh Gardener was born on 15th April 1997 in Adelaide, South Australia. Gardener is an all rounder who has the capability to hit the cricket ball hard and at the same time have an impact on the game with the ball in her hand. She has impressed everyone right from the start of her playing days.

During Cricket Australia’s under 18 championships in 2015, she topped the run scoring chart and also led the New South Wales to the title. In doing so she also rightfully won the player of the championship award.

She has also won the player of the tournament award at in Impraja Cup 2015. Since then, she has continued to impress everyone with her performance at the domestic level and as a result, was soon named in the Australian national team to play against New Zealand. In 2017 she made her T20 and ODI debut against New Zealand.

In the initial stage of her career, she was a middle-order batsman but with time she has transformed herself into a useful middle-order all-rounder who can bowl off-break. She is not just bits and pieces all-rounder rather she is more of a useful batsman who can chip in with the bowl at crucial situations. She gives the Australian team an extra edge.

She has represented Australia at the 2017 world cup and ever since her debut she has been a regular member of the squad. She has different shots in her arsenal and her ability to strike the ball hard is something that benefits the Australian team and will also be useful for them in the future.

In April 2018 she was awarded a national contract and in the following year, she was able to retain a contract with her performances. In 2019 June, she was named in the Australian team for their tour to England to contest the women’s Ashes during which she made her test debut for Australia.

At the age of 22, she is already a great asset for the Australian national women’s cricket team and with a lot of cricket ahead of her, she will be a great asset for the Australian team in the future.
