The future FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2022 is scheduled to begin on January 13, 2023, with India’s opening match against Spain scheduled for 7 p.m. at Rourkela’s Birsa Munda Stadium.
Taking about the latest development, world largest 105-foot-long hockey stick and 5000 hockey balls were installed at the Mahanadi River Bank in Cuttack, Orissa, by renowned sand artist Sudharshan Patnaik and his colleagues.
The longest hockey stick is made with more than 5000 tonnes of sand and sculpture.
India is grouped with nations like Wales, England, and Spain in Group D.
When comparing the rosters for Pool D, the host team is the favourite, but England, who has had a strong team in recent World Cups and has occasionally advanced to the championship game’s semifinals, will be hoping to learn from its past failures.
Although the game’s format is straightforward and will begin with the league stage followed by a cross over stage format, they were unable to advance to the final and Wales and Spain are also difficult opponents to counter with.
Due to their placement in the top 3 in the FIH World Rankings, Belgium, Australia, and the Netherlands are the favourites to win the major competition.
In this forthcoming major competition, Harmanpreet Singh will captain India, and his team will include both young and seasoned players.
