Wasim Jaffer becomes first player to make 150 appearances in Ranji Trophy history

Former Indian Test opener Wasim Jaffer achieved yet another historical record as he became the first player to make 150 appearances in the history of Ranji Trophy. He achieved the feat after he walked out to bat against Andhra at the Devineni Venkata Ramana Praneetha Ground in Vijayawada.

Jaffer, who plays for Vidarbha leads the elite list of most centuries in the premier four-day domestic tournament. Former Delhi cricketer Ajay Sharma (31) and Muzumdar (28) are second and third on the list, respectively. The run machine also tops the list of highest runs scored by a player in the tournament.

Jaffer made his debut in first-class cricket during the 1996/97 season. The opening batsman became the first batsman to score 11,000 runs in Ranji Trophy and he achieved the milestone last year. He has played 253 first-class matches, scoring 19,147 runs with an incredible average of 51.19. Jaffer is also exceptional when it comes to converting his knocks into a big one and the outrageous numbers say it all. He has 88 fifties and 57 hundreds in first-class cricket.

However, as much as he shined in the domestic arena, the story was quite the opposite in the national team. Jaffer only managed to represent India in only 31 Tests and 2 ODIs. He has 11 fifties and 5 hundres in his name in international cricket. Despite performing consistently over the years international cricket, luck really didn’t favour the dynamic opener.
