Controversy has emerged from an incident which took place during the second One Day International between India and Australia, where the Indian captain Virat Kohli reportedly ran on the pitch, while completing a run, and this went unnoticed by the umpire.
After losing the first ODI humiliatingly, team India made a strong comeback in the second ODI as they won the game by a margin of 36 runs. The series now is tied 1-1 and the next match that is to be played in Bengaluru will act as the series decider.
The incident that has brought Kohli under criticism took place during India’s batting in the 42nd and 43rd over. Kohli, who was leading the Indian batting attack at that time, was seen running on the pitch, where one cannot while completing his run.
The commentator in the box at that time, Michael Slater, pointed out how the umpire did not notice this. He said, “Just seeing how he navigates the two, for me that is very much on the pitch, and that is definitely on the pitch. If I’m an umpire I’m watching that and I’m just telling him to get off a surface that the opposition has got to bat on later.”
He also questioned why the third umpire too did not notice this.
As per the rules of the sport, any team whose player runs on the playing area of the pitch is handed a five-run penalty. And, fans demand that the same should have been done with Kohli. Later in the match, team India all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja was given a warning for the same act, but no penalty was imposed.
Different rules for India?

Always 2 sets of rules for this team and Kohli.
If he fires up, it’s called passion.
If another country does it, it’s called disrespectful, not in the spirit of the game, cheating.— Chompers (@Tingas75) January 17, 2020
That’s how powerful India are. Salty fans.
