The reverse countdown for the ICC T20 World cup 2022 has already begun as the group stages are scheduled to take place on 16th October. Australia will be hosting the T20 world cup for the first time and they also happen to be the defending champions.

The Baggy greens have a great chance of defending their title at home conditions where nothing is unfamiliar for them. We can expect to see a lot of fireworks in a few days time and some records will also be rewritten in 8 days time.

In this article, Sportzcraazy will reveal the top 5 fastest fifties scored in the history of ICC T20 world cup from 2007-2021.

  • Yuvraj Singh – The 2011 ICC 50 over World cup man of the tournament played some crucial knocks during his time as a player. In terms of reliability there was no one who could replace Yuvi at his prime. Since making his debut, Yuvraj singh helped India win several bilateral series most notably the 2002 NatWest series in England where he introduced himself as one of the new faces of Indian cricket. During the inaugural edition of the T20 world cup in South Africa, Yuvraj singh smashed 50 runs off just 12 balls against England, which is the fastest fifty in T20 world cup as well as International cricket. He also has the record of scoring the most runs in an over as he smacked six sixes in the first 6 balls he faced from Stuart broad, which eventually paved the way for Yuvraj to score the fastest half-century in the history of T20 world cups.

  • Stephan Myburgh During the 2014 T20 World cup in Bangladesh, Dutch international Stephan Myburgh did the unthinkable when he banged the second fastest half-century in the history of T20 world cups. Netherlands were facing Ireland in match 12 of the group stages where they were chasing a total of 190 runs. The Men in Orange finished the game in just 13.5 overs thanks to important knocks from Peter Borren, Stephan Myburgh, Wesley Barresi and Tom Cooper. Out of the four batsmen, it was Stephan Myburgh who made all the news as it took him only 17 balls to get to his fifty. Myburgh was eventually removed by Irish bowler George Dockrell but the damage was already done as the Dutch opener scored 63 off 23 balls with a scary strike rate of 273.91.

  • Glenn Maxwell – The inclusion of the Aussie hard hitter in this list is a no-brainer. Ever since he burst onto the scene, Maxwell made a reputation of being one of the most dangerous batters in world cricket. His stance and batting style makes it very obvious that he has not come down to the middle for single-double but for the maximums. Be it a spinner or a pacer, Maxwell can send the balls as well as the bowlers confidence right into the stands. It was during the 2014 T20 world cup when Glenn Maxwell lashed on to the Pakistani bowlers to register himself third on this list. The Big show arrived at the crease in a very delicate situation as Australia had lost 2 wickets by making only 8 runs. Maxwell was ready to press the clutch and gear up Australia’s run chase which saw him secure his half-century in just 18 balls. However, Australia went on to lose the match but Maxwell did all he possibly could as he departed on 74 off 33 balls with a strike rate of 224.24.

  • KL Rahul – The classy Indian opener has now become a regular starter for India as an opener in T20s. One of the biggest assets he brings with him is stability with some flamboyancy that helps India come out of tough situations. However, during last year’s T20 world cup, India headed out of the tournament earlier than expected but made a strong comeback against a relatively weaker Scottish side. In their eight-wicket victory over Scotland, the graceful right-handed hitter ignited the Dubai International Stadium as he smashed a half-century in 18 balls. KL Rahul has the record for the second-fastest fifty by an Indian at a World Cup after Yuvraj Singh.

Scotland became the recipients yet again as Malik became the joint third fastest batsman to score a half century in 18 balls. Pakistan scored 189 runs in 20 overs thanks to Malik’s 54 runs in 18 balls. With the help of Malik’s blitz, Pakistan scored 43 runs in the final two overs, including 26 in Chris Greaves’ final six deliveries.
