TNPL Stars Who Would be Perfect For CSK in IPL 2024
The seventh edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) is halfway through, and all eight teams are competing for places on the points table. The league has witnessed many exceptional individual performances as the season approaches its end. The TNPL is a platform for players to showcase their talent and potentially be selected for the IPL. Several franchises are keeping an eye on the league’s top performers.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) recently won their fifth IPL title by defeating the Gujarat Titans in a thrilling grand finale in Ahmedabad. Despite their title run, the squad has a few gaps to fill, with the retirement of stalwart Ambati Rayudu and several other players. Keeping that in mind, let’s take a look at three TNPL stars who would fit seamlessly into the Chennai Super Kings squad for IPL 2024.
Baba Aparajith
Baba Aparajith, a 28-year-old right-handed batter, has been a consistent performer in domestic cricket for the past decade. Despite being a part of the CSK and Rising Pune Super Giant squads, he has yet to play a single game in the IPL. Aparajith has been particularly impressive in the last two seasons of the TNPL, scoring 396 runs in 2022 and averaging 56.57 with a strike rate of 144.52.

This year, he has continued his form, averaging 53.67 with a strike rate of 145.04 in four games. Aparajith also has nine wickets over the last two seasons, showcasing his all-round abilities. With the retirement of Ambati Rayudu, Aparajith could be an ideal fit in the middle order for CSK, providing stability and acceleration when needed.
Abhishek Tanwar could be a great option for CSK, considering their fitness issues with Indian pacers like Deepak Chahar and Mukesh Choudary. The right-arm-medium pacer, who is 31 years old, made his T20 debut for Tamil Nadu in the 2015-2016 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. However, he has truly shone over the past couple of seasons in the TNPL. He was the leading wicket-taker in the TNPL a year ago, with 17 scalps in nine games at an average of 14.11 and an economy rate of only 7.09 runs per over.
This season, he has six wickets in three matches and boasts an economy rate of under seven runs an over. Tanwar is an exceptional T20 pacer, boasting an economy rate of fewer than five runs per over in the powerplay and an impressive 17 wickets in the death overs at an average of 11.50 over the last two TNPL seasons. He is a complete package. He is also a valuable lower-order ball striker, with a strike rate of 155.80 in seven innings. Tanwar could help beef up CSK’s Indian fast-bowling core and play a similar role to that of Dwayne Bravo during the franchise’s dynastic runs in the years gone by.
Guruswamy Ajitesh
Guruswamy Ajitesh, the 20-year-old batting sensation from the Nellai Royal Kings, is making waves in the TNPL. Guruswamy Ajitesh, a right-handed batter, recently scored an incredible 112 off 60 deliveries against the Lyca Kovai Kings. In six matches last season, he averaged 43 with a strike rate of 243.39, batting mostly down the order.
This season, the Royal Kings moved him up to No. 3 after the first couple of games and he has been performing brilliantly ever since. With 185 runs at an average of 61.66 and a strike rate of over 160, Ajitesh is the second-leading scorer of the ongoing season. He can bat up the order and play the role of the finisher, giving CSK several options. Ajitesh could be an ideal buy for the Super Kings, who prefer floaters and aggressive middle-order batters.
